Starting with the Windows 10 Creators Update, developers can now implement a new Picture in Picture mode (aka Compact Overlay windows) in their apps, which is great for allowing apps to be shown above your web browser or other windows. Very few apps support this new compact overlay mode for now, including Microsoft’s own Skype and Movies & TV UWP apps, but it looks like Groove will be the next app to get it.

According to MSPoweruser, select Windows Insiders can now test a new Mini View for the Groove Music app, which when enabled creates a smaller player window that will stay above your other apps. The mini view features playback controls including a playback bar, and it also lets users watch music videos from the Groove Music service.

It’s not clear when the new Mini View will roll out to everyone, and we don’t have it yet on our Fast Ring PCs. That’s not entirely surprising, as Microsoft announced yesterday that it would stop testing new versions of native Windows 10 apps with Windows Insiders. If you already have access to it, let us know in the comments if you think this new addition will make Groove a more versatile music player on Windows 10 PCs.
