The growth of Windows 10 seems to have slowed down quite a bit since last year. Last week, Microsoft announced without fanfare that there are now 600 million monthly active devices running Windows 10, which is a new milestone for the company. In case you forgot, Microsoft announced 500M devices almost a year ago during Build 2017, and 400M devices back in September 2016.
As usual, these numbers include PCs, tablets, phones, Xbox One consoles and now Windows Mixed Reality headsets. According to Microsoft’s own telemetry data, 48% of Windows 10 PCs were running Windows 10 in February (it’s 39% for Windows 7).
“With Windows 10 adoption growing and the introduction of S mode, there’s never been a better time to build for Windows and distribute via the Microsoft Store,” the company wrote on the Windows blog. The Redmond giant also shared the following trends about the Microsoft Store:
- For apps, the “Entertainment” category is the leader in overall percentage of downloads and revenue worldwide.
- For games, the “Action and adventure” category is the front-runner for overall percentage of revenue and downloads worldwide.
- For apps, nearly 2/3 of the overall revenue mix on Microsoft Store comes from download-to-own (DTO) products.
- For games, nearly 2/3 of the overall revenue mix on Microsoft Store comes from add-ons or in-app purchases (IAP).
