The Remote Desktop app, integrated within Windows, allows you to connect to and use your PC from another device. However, with third-party Remote Desktop apps like Teamviewer or AnyDesk readily available, you might find the built-in RDC unnecessary.

In Windows 11, the built-in Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) feature, designed for remote support, can be disabled if you want to avoid any potential security risks. Starting with Windows 11 23H2, you can uninstall the Remote Desktop Connection and reinstall it later if needed.

How to uninstall the Remote Desktop Connection in Windows 11

1. Using the Settings App

  1. Press Win+I to open Settings.
  2. Navigate to Apps > Installed Apps.
  3. Search for Remote.
  4. Click on the three-dot icon on the right side and select Uninstall.
  5. Restart your computer when prompted to complete the uninstallation.

2. Using Command Prompt

  1. Press the Win key and type Cmd.
  2. Right-click on the first result and select Run as administrator.
  3. Run the following command:
    mstsc /uninstall /noPromptBeforeRestart

The Remote Desktop Connection will be uninstalled, and the system will restart without any prompt. Make sure to save your work before attempting the Command Prompt method.

If you want the Remote Desktop Connection back, you can reinstall it at a later date by following the steps below or from the official Microsoft page.

How to reinstall Remote Desktop Connection

  1. Download the Remote Desktop Connection installer for your system:
    Windows 64-bit
    Windows 32-bit
    Windows ARM64
  2. After the download is complete, run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions until the setup is complete.
