Windows 11 Beta 26H1 Build Removes WMIC and Drag Tray, Fixes Settings Notifications and Magnifier Launch Issues

The Build 28020.2731 is out for Windows 11 Insiders in the Beta 26H1 channel

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Beta 26H1 Build 28020.2731 with a short list of changes.

Windows 11 Beta 26H1 removes WMIC and drops Drag Tray

The biggest change in this build is the removal of Windows Management Instrumentation Command-line, better known as WMIC. Microsoft says this continues its ongoing deprecation and removal process.

Drag Tray is also being removed from this build. Microsoft says Insider feedback influenced the decision, while work continues toward a future replacement experience.

The update therefore focuses more on fixes than new features. Microsoft has not announced another Drag Tray implementation in this release.

Settings and Magnifier receive targeted reliability fixes

Settings gets a fix for a crash affecting System > Notifications. The problem appeared in the previous flight and could cause Settings to close when users interacted with notification controls. Magnifier also receives an important accessibility fix. Moreover, Microsoft has addressed an issue that prevented the tool from launching for some Insiders.
