Latest Windows 11 Beta Build Improves File Explorer & More, But Breaks "Reset this PC"
The Build 26220.8474 is out for Windows 11 Insiders in the Beta channel
Skipping the usual timings, Microsoft dropped four new builds to wrap up the week late yesterday. Among which, the Build 26220.8474, is now live for Windows 11 Insiders in the Beta channel. Notably, the company has also rolled out new build for Experimental (Dev) channel that brings much-requested taskbar positioning feature and an option to make taskbar smaller than usual. In fact, the company is also giving you more control over Start experience.
Windows 11 Insider Beta Build 26220.8474 fixes an issue related to File Explore’s Property
As for the Beta Build 26220.8474, Microsoft says that the company will start “moving users in the Beta Channel to the new Beta experience.” Speaking if changes and improvements, the news Beta build fixes an issue from previous flight where Properties in File Explorer wasn’t invoking correctly for the Recycle bin and some other scenarios.
With the new Beta build, Fluid Dictation is now available in Spanish & French for Windows Insiders. Microsoft says that it makes voice-based dictation smoother and smarter by automatically correcting grammar, punctuation, and filler words as you speak, reducing the need for manual editing. Apparently, this new experience is powered by on-device small language models (SLMs) to ensure fast and private processing.
Microsoft has also noted that the new build improves the “reliability of Simple Service Discovery Protocol (SSDP) notifications to help prevent the service from becoming unresponsive.” That’s not all, it has also improved “reliability of running dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth command.”
Known issue in this build
Last but not least, Microsoft confirms a known issue in the Beta Build 26220.8474. In the changelog for the build, Microsoft notes, “Resetting your PC may get stuck when using “Reset this PC.” To complete the reset successfully, choose the cloud download option (Cloud PBR) instead of local.”
