Windows 11 Experimental Preview Adds Dedicated Taskbar Size Setting
Microsoft has expanded its Windows Insider testing with the release of Windows 11 Insider Experimental Preview Build 26300.8758. The latest update focuses on usability improvements, particularly for taskbar customization and File Explorer, while also fixing several bugs affecting everyday workflows.
One of the biggest additions in this release is a dedicated Taskbar Size setting, making it easier for users to find and adjust taskbar scaling options. Microsoft has also refined the animations when switching between different taskbar sizes, resulting in smoother transitions.
Windows 11 gets a dedicated Taskbar Size setting
Taskbar customization has become more accessible in the latest Experimental Preview build. Instead of relying on less obvious options, users can now find a dedicated Taskbar Size setting designed to simplify personalization.
Microsoft says the change should make it easier for users to select the taskbar size that best matches their display and workflow. The company has also polished the transition animations between different taskbar sizes, creating a smoother visual experience when switching between them.
While the feature is included in this build, Microsoft is rolling it out gradually, meaning not every Insider will receive it immediately.
File Explorer improvements and bug fixes
Microsoft continues refining File Explorer with several reliability improvements and bug fixes.
The Details pane now offers more reliable thumbnail previews for cloud files, making it easier to identify content stored in services such as OneDrive without opening files.
In addition, Microsoft has reorganized the Details pane so file properties are easier to locate and review.
The update also fixes a long-standing issue where the OneDrive shortcut stopped working whenever File Explorer was launched with administrator privileges.
Another fix addresses an unusual bug affecting permanent file deletion. In some cases, the confirmation dialog displayed an internal Recycle Bin file name instead of the original file name. The latest build restores the correct behavior.
Improved dark mode sounds
Microsoft has also updated several Windows system sounds when using dark mode.
The company has not detailed every change, but says the updated sounds are intended to provide a more consistent experience while using Windows in dark mode.
Microsoft has also released a new Windows 11 Beta update for Insiders. Separately, recent reports suggest that the upcoming Windows 11 26H2 update could require less than 200KB to install for many users already running supported versions of Windows 11, thanks to Microsoft’s enablement package approach.
