Windows 11’s grip on PC gaming is getting stronger. Steam’s June 2025 Hardware & Software Survey shows Microsoft’s latest OS climbing to 59.84% of Windows-based systems used by gamers, up 1.54 points from May.
Windows 10 continues its slow exit, now at 35.69%, while Windows 7 is nearly gone at just 0.09%. Windows still rules the platform overall, running on 95.67% of systems (+0.22 points). Linux holds 2.57%, and macOS trails with 1.76%.
With extended Windows 10 updates available for one more year, the OS is expected to linger in homes and gaming setups, but the shift is clear.
In hardware trends, the most common setup includes 16GB RAM, a 6-core CPU, and 1080p resolution. NVIDIA’s RTX 4060 Laptop GPU now tops the charts with 4.79% usage, just overtaking the popular desktop RTX 3060.
NVIDIA dominates GPU share with 74.07%, followed by AMD at 17.68% and Intel at 7.88%. On the CPU side, Intel still leads at 59.29%, with AMD close behind at 40.71%.
Valve’s monthly data shows where gaming is headed, faster GPUs, newer Windows, and 1080p still holding strong.
