Microsoft recently improved Windows Search in the latest Insider build by making it easier to find apps even when users misspell their names. Now, the company is preparing another long-requested change.

According to Windows Latest, Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 11 users will soon be able to disable Bing-powered web results directly from the Start menu search experience.

Bing Results Can Be Turned Off Directly in Settings

The confirmation came from Microsoft’s March Rogers, who responded to user feedback on X and revealed that a dedicated option is on the way. Once enabled, the setting will allow users to remove Bing web results without relying on Registry edits, Group Policy changes, or third-party tools.

The new option will be located in the Settings app under Privacy & Security > Search.

Users will be able to toggle off web results, causing Windows Search to focus exclusively on local content.

Web content powered by Bing will no longer appear in Start menu search results.

The change affects more than just web search results.

Disabling Bing integration will also remove the Microsoft Rewards icon from the Windows Search interface. Users should also stop seeing Copilot promotions and advertisements that occasionally appear while searching for local files and apps.

In addition, the Windows Search homepage will no longer display content pulled from Microsoft services such as Bing, MSN, and related online feeds.

Bing Search Remains Enabled by Default

Microsoft is not removing Bing integration entirely. The feature will remain enabled by default on Windows 11 devices.

Users who want a purely local search experience will need to manually disable the option once it becomes available.

The company is currently testing the feature and has not announced an exact release date. However, given Microsoft’s public confirmation, the setting is expected to begin rolling out in a future Windows 11 update.

In other news, Microsoft recently confirmed a new Windows bug affecting the Recycle Bin after the June Patch Tuesday update. The company has also started rolling out a new Microsoft Authenticator sign-in experience that requires users to manually enter a verification number instead of simply approving a notification.
