Windows 11 KB5079473 Patch Tuesday Update Linked To Crashes And Install Errors
Microsoft recently released the Windows 11 Patch Tuesday update KB5079473, but early user reports suggest the update may be causing installation failures and system instability on some PCs.
The issue appeared shortly after Microsoft released two new Insider Preview updates, KB5079458 for the Dev Channel and KB5079464 for the Beta Channel. These updates include improvements to Driver Policy management and Windows Setup.
Users report KB5079473 installation failures
Several users on Reddit report that the Patch Tuesday update fails during installation. One report mentions error code 0x80070306 appearing while attempting to install the update.
Attempts to repair Windows using built-in tools such as System File Checker (SFC) and Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) reportedly did not resolve the problem.
BSOD crashes and reboot loops
Other users claim the update triggered more serious issues. One report states that the system experienced repeated blue screen of death (BSOD) crashes while attempting to install the update.
In some cases, affected systems reportedly entered reboot loops, forcing users to perform a hard reset to regain access to their PCs.
Additional reports of system instability
Some users also report graphical glitches, system freezes, and lock-ups after installing the update.
Another report posted on Microsoft’s Feedback Hub claims that the update removed administrator privileges on the affected system, preventing users from performing administrative tasks.
Microsoft has not confirmed any issues yet
Microsoft’s official support documentation currently states that it is not aware of any known issues with the update.
Since the update was released recently, the company may document these problems later if they are confirmed by additional reports.
The situation comes shortly after Microsoft released the emergency hotpatch update KB5084597 to address a network security vulnerability affecting the Windows Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS).
