Windows 11 Notepad Tables Are Finally Available For Everyone
Microsoft has moved quickly to modernize one of its oldest apps. After months of testing, the company has officially rolled out table support in Notepad and live AI streaming for Windows 11 users, as WindowsLatest reports.
Notepad finally adds built-in table support
The new “Create a table” option now ships publicly in Windows 11. Users can insert tables directly from the formatting toolbar in Notepad, then define rows and columns in a simple dialog. Notepad stores tables as plain text using Markdown-style formatting, which keeps files lightweight and easy to share.
After inserting a table, users can click into individual cells and type normally. Basic text formatting such as bold, underline, and italics, works inside cells, making tables useful for notes, quick drafts, and simple layouts. Since Microsoft enables the feature by default, users can start using it immediately without changing settings.
Live AI streaming makes Notepad more interactive
Notepad also continues to expand its AI-driven features. The app now supports AI streaming results, where generated text appears in real time as the tool works. This approach mirrors live typing and improves tasks like Write, Rewrite, and Summarize.
Microsoft currently shows AI streaming on Copilot+ PCs, with plans to extend support to all Windows 11 devices. The feature makes AI interactions feel more responsive and transparent, especially during longer text generation tasks.
Together, these updates highlight how Microsoft is reshaping Notepad into a more capable productivity tool. Beyond Notepad, the company continues to push updates across its ecosystem, with Microsoft Excel getting new import functions and improved collaboration through tighter integration with Google Drive.
