Microsoft is giving the Windows Security app a fresh look, bringing its design closer to Windows 11 and other system apps. The October 2026 update introduces version 1000.29680.0.1000, with cleaner navigation, modernized controls, and clearer security information.

Windows Security gets a cleaner interface

The refreshed experience updates layouts and navigation across the app. Microsoft says pages now follow more consistent designs and behave better across different window sizes. Controls, status indicators, typography, spacing, and colors have also received visual improvements.

The company is also making security information and available actions easier to understand. These changes aim to create a more consistent experience throughout Windows Security, rather than focusing on a single page.

Device security details should appear sooner

Supported managed devices are also getting improvements to how device security information loads. Microsoft says details will appear progressively, allowing available information to show up sooner instead of waiting for everything to load.

The update also improves progress indicators, error handling, refresh behavior, and performance-monitoring experiences. However, Microsoft has not provided a detailed list of additional security features or protections in the release notes.

The refreshed Windows Security experience is rolling out through Windows Insider flights. Microsoft has not specified a general public release date in the announcement.
