XBOX Handheld Compatibility Expands With 36 Games

Microsoft has expanded XBOX handheld compatibility with 36 additional games this week, according to TrueAchievements. The latest approvals include both new releases and older titles that can run on devices such as the ROG Xbox Ally.

The update follows news that more than 30 games are coming to XBOX next week. Microsoft continues to expand the software library available to handheld players.

Games approved for XBOX handhelds receive either an Optimized or Compatible label.

Optimized games should run without major settings changes or additional configuration. Compatible games can run on handheld hardware but may require users to adjust graphics, controls, or other settings.

Fuzion Frenzy reaches an XBOX handheld milestone

Fuzion Frenzy is the most notable game in the latest compatibility update. It is the only backward-compatible original XBOX game officially approved for XBOX handheld devices.

Microsoft gave Fuzion Frenzy the Compatible label rather than the Optimized label. Players may therefore need to make some manual adjustments before playing.

The approval also highlights Microsoft’s growing focus on backward compatibility. Recent discoveries involving the XeFu XBOX emulator have provided more information about how original XBOX games can run on modern hardware.

The following games received the Compatible label:

CULTIC and Teodoro appear under both labels in the reported list. Microsoft may have approved different versions or updated their compatibility status during testing.

The latest additions give XBOX handheld owners more games that should work with limited setup. Fuzion Frenzy also suggests that more backward-compatible original XBOX games could receive handheld approval in the future.
