Microsoft is allowing Windows 10 users to upgrade for free to Windows 11 again, but earlier this week, the Redmond-based tech giant said, in a blog post, that it is for a limited period. However, the Redmond-based tech giant deleted the blog post entirely, meaning the company most probably made a mistake.
Meanwhile, all Windows 10 users can upgrade to Windows 11 for free, and the offer is not bound to a period of time. However, you should hurry.
As you might already know, after October 14, 2025, Microsoft will no longer support Windows 10. This means no more security updates, leaving these devices vulnerable to malware and other threats. To avoid this, users will have to upgrade to Windows 11.
Check if your PC meets the minimum requirements. You can find these on Microsoft’s website. The company has also provided a list of CPUs compatible with Windows 11. Intel’s 7th gen processors and AMD’s Zen 1 chips are not supported.
If you want to stick with Windows 10, Microsoft offers an “extended security updates” program for enterprises. However, the program will only be available to specific customers. By 2025, Microsoft 365 Apps will no longer be supported in Windows 10. You’ll need to upgrade to Windows 11 to continue using them.
Microsoft plans to roll out Windows 11 via Windows Update. If your device meets the minimum requirements, you’ll see an update allowing you to upgrade to Windows 11. You’ll receive a notification in Windows Update when the update is available.
Depending on your device, the installation process should not take more than an hour.
