The Skip Ahead option for Fast ring Insiders lets users jump ahead past the current Fall Creators Update builds. They can reach the development branch where the update coming after the Fall Creators Update is in the development process.
The Skip Ahead option places Insiders on the Redstone 4 channel of development builds. In other words, if they choose to skip ahead they will not be able to test the Fall Creators Update RTM, but they will receive early updates.
When Microsoft announced this option, the Insider team said that places were limited and not everyone who wanted to join would be able to do so.
Skip Ahead is available again
Last week the company closed the entry window, and the feature was not available anymore. On August 4, the Skip Ahead program reached full capacity, and Microsoft didn’t accept any new participants. Microsoft limited the number of Insiders for the Skip Ahead option in order to continue testing the Fall Creators Update and receive feedback on the latest builds.
Now, it looks like Insiders from the Fast ring can access the feature again, and they can skip ahead to the Fall Creators Update.
Users believe that the Insiders Program allows Microsoft to kill two birds with one stone. Insiders get what they want (which is early access to Windows builds with new features and the ability to provide feedback), and Microsoft saves money by not having to pay testers.
