The moment many fans of Notepad have been waiting for has finally arrived. The latest preview version of Notepad rolling out to Windows 11 Dev Channel Insiders supports dark mode and also sports a fresh new design.

Available in Notepad version 11.211.64.0, the option for dark mode should appear in the in-app settings menu. Notepad will now allow you to use light mode, dark mode, or even your system setting. In addition to all that, Microsoft is also rolling out some other visual changes like rounded corners, and the Mica effect for light mode. Other changes in Notepad include a redesigned find and replace experience and multi-level undo.

This initial version of Notepad will have several known issues. Currently, the list includes problems with switching between different input languages or while using Japanese IME. Microsoft also notes that under certain circumstances, you may notice unexpected behavior when using shift-click to select text or when scrolling. These should all be addressed in future updates.
