Google Photos started off as a photo/video storing and sharing application and has, since then, transformed into your go-to editing app. And the latest feature, Enhance your video, in Google Photos is set to take things to the next level!
First spotted by Android Authority, the feature is quite similar to the one-tap image enhancement functionality available in Google Photos. It automatically adjusts the contrast, brightness, colour saturation, and other vital video parameters, which otherwise has to be done manually.
Denoted by a Magic Wand icon, the feature was first spotted on Google Photos, version 6.81.0.628906483. However, it’s not available for everyone yet and requires employing workarounds for access.
Android Authority also demonstrated how the Enhance your video feature worked. The video that it’s applied to exhibits higher saturation levels and contrast, giving an impression that it’s been captured in a more professional manner. The lighting appears to have been optimized!
While Google hasn’t yet confirmed rolling out the feature in Beta testing or the app’s stable version, there’s some good news. Video enhancements on Google Photos are device-centric, meaning everything happens on the phone, and you don’t need an Internet connection.
The changes currently take some time depending on the video’s duration, and as is the case with the photo equivalent of the feature, you can download the video post-rendering.
The release date for the video enhancement feature in Google Photos is yet to be shared. Also, since the automatic editing operations take place on the device, it will be interesting to see whether all mobile phones are supported or if the feature is exclusive to phones equipped with AI-supported chips.
More details about the Enhance your video feature may emerge during Google I/O 2024, scheduled for May 14, 2024.
