Intel is stepping deeper into gaming hardware with a new platform designed specifically for portable gaming devices. The platform will combine both hardware and software and is centered around Intel’s latest Core Series 3 processors, known as Panther Lake. These chips, introduced last year, are now rolling out across multiple PC models.

The new platform will include a dedicated chip personalized for handheld gaming, according to folks at IGN (via TechCrunch). Built on Intel’s 18A manufacturing process, Panther Lake marks the company’s first generation of processors produced on this cutting-edge node, which entered production in 2025.

Intel has a long history in the gaming industry, developing processors for gaming PCs since the ’90s. The company refocused on gaming in 2022 with the launch of Intel Arc GPUs, and this new handheld initiative represents the next step in expanding into mobile gaming hardware.

Intel has not shared specific details about the handheld platform’s release or performance benchmarks, but as TechCrunch points out the vice president and general manager of PC products Daniel Rogers confirmed the company will provide more information later this year.
