Windows 11 KB5072046 Adds Ability to Allow Admins Uninstall Copilot App on Managed Devices
Microsoft has rolled out KB5072046 for insiders in the Dev and Beta channels of Windows 11 25H2. The latest update bumps systems to Build 26220.7535 and brings a useful new feature for IT admins managing Microsoft Copilot across devices.
The update brings a new Group Policy option allowing admins to uninstall the Microsoft Copilot app on managed devices in a targeted way. Named RemoveMicrosoftCopilotApp, the policy applies to devices and users meeting specific conditions: the system must have Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Copilot installed, the app must not have been installed by the user, and it should not have been launched in the last 28 days.
When enabled, the policy will remove the Microsoft Copilot app once from all eligible devices. Users can still reinstall Copilot if desired, ensuring organizations maintain control without permanently restricting access. This management option is available on Enterprise, Pro, and EDU SKUs, making it ideal for large deployments.
To enable the policy, admins can navigate to the Group Policy Editor via User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows AI > Remove Microsoft Copilot App. When you enable, it will automatically apply the setting to all qualifying users and devices.
This update complements Microsoft’s ongoing push to integrate AI features into Windows 11, following accessibility improvements like Copilot-powered Narrator descriptions for visually impaired users.
As a reminder, these builds are available on both the Dev & Beta Channels for Windows 11, version 25H2. Dev Channel Insiders still have a limited window to switch to the Beta Channel if they prefer.
