Microsoft Fixes Gmail Sync Problems in Classic Outlook App

microsoft outlook bugs

Microsoft finally squashed a bug in classic Outlook that suddenly stopped Gmail and Yahoo accounts from syncing properly. Starting in late February, many users noticed their emails just completely stopped loading. The software threw out weird error codes instead of asking people to sign back in.

The good news is that Microsoft applied a fix to its servers last Friday to get things moving again, as reported by Bleeping Computer.

How to get your emails syncing again

The main fix is already live on Microsoft’s end. But you might still be stuck waiting if your login token has not expired yet.

Usually, it takes about an hour for that old token to clear out after you change a password. Once it finally expires, Outlook will pop up a window asking you to sign in to your Gmail or Yahoo account again. After you log in, your inbox should start pulling in new messages like normal.

If you do not want to wait around for an hour, there is a manual workaround. You can force the sign-in prompt to appear right away by heading into the Windows Registry Editor. You just need to find the Outlook Identities key and delete the specific registry entry for your stuck email address.

Microsoft is also looking into a few other weird glitches in classic Outlook right now. Some people are seeing connection errors when they try to make new groups. Others have noticed their mouse pointer completely disappearing while they try to use the app.

If you run into those, Microsoft wants you to send in diagnostic logs so it can figure out what is going wrong.
