AMD Launches Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 With Dual 3D V-Cache and 192MB Cache

Starts at $899 across major retailers

As VideoCardz writes, AMD has introduced the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, its first desktop processor featuring dual 3D V-Cache, pushing performance further in high-end gaming and workloads.

Dual 3D V-Cache arrives on desktop

The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 brings a major architectural shift with dual-stacked 3D V-Cache. It features 16 Zen 5 cores and 32 threads, with a base clock of 4.3 GHz and boost speeds reaching up to 5.6 GHz.

Cache is the headline feature. The chip includes a massive 192 MB of L3 cache alongside 16 MB of L2 cache, significantly increasing data access speeds for cache-sensitive applications.

AMD rates the processor at a 200W default TDP and recommends liquid cooling to maintain peak performance under sustained loads.

Positioned above the standard 9950X3D

The new model sits at the top of AMD’s AM5 desktop lineup, above the Ryzen 9 9950X3D.

While both CPUs share the same 16-core, 32-thread configuration, the standard 9950X3D offers a slightly higher 5.7 GHz boost clock but comes with less cache at 128 MB of L3 and a lower 170W TDP.

The 9950X3D2 trades a small amount of peak frequency for a significantly larger cache pool, targeting workloads where memory latency and cache size matter more than raw clock speed.

Pricing and availability

The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is now available at major retailers. Pricing currently sits at $899 on Newegg and B&H Photo, while Amazon listings show a higher price of $999.

Alongside this launch, reports suggest AMD may bring back the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. The company is also exploring multi-frame generation technology for its FSR upscaling solution, signaling continued focus on gaming performance.
