28 More Games Join ROG Xbox Ally Default Game Profiles List
Handheld gaming has been picking up pace lately, and Xbox is quietly continuing to refine its experience on its new handhelds it launched in partnership with ASUS last year. For those unaware, the company introduced something called Default Game Profiles late last year. Well, Xbox is now expanding that system with more supported titles.
Xbox expands Default Game Profiles to more ROG Xbox Ally/Ally X titles
In a Game Dev blog post from yesterday, Xbox’s Principal Program Manager, Clint Woon, confirmed that more than two dozen additional games now support Default Game Profiles on the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X. This builds on the initial rollout, which already covered around 40 titles when the feature first launched.
For those unaware, Default Game Profiles are essentially pre-configured settings customized for each game. These profiles automatically adjust things like Thermal Design Power and frame rate limits to balance performance and battery life, especially when playing on battery.
That being said, this is not something you tweak manually inside the game. The settings are delivered through Xbox services but applied through ASUS software that comes preinstalled on the handhelds. The idea here is to go beyond standard in-game options and optimize performance at a system level.
As you may know, handheld gaming often struggles with the balance between performance and battery life. That means pushing higher frame rates can drain the battery quickly, while lowering performance too much affects gameplay. This is where Default Game Profiles step in to find a middle ground automatically.
More improvements likely coming your way
With over two dozen new games added, the supported list is growing steadily. However, Woon notes that this is still an ongoing effort. “Our work here isn’t finished, so keep an eye out for more improvements to the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X in the future,” he added.
