New ROG Xbox Ally Updates Bring Docking Upgrades, Auto SR Preview, and More
Xbox has announced a new wave of updates for the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. Xbox says it has been focusing on steady improvements rather than big resets. The company has been improving performance, expanding game compatibility, and tuning the overall handheld experience based on player feedback.
Docked play gets a more console-like feel
Xbox is rolling out a set of updates that improve experience when the device is docked to a TV or monitor. When connected, gameplay now automatically shifts to the external display, while the handheld screen turns off to prioritize performance and clarity.
The system also adjusts display settings like resolution, refresh rate, and HDR output based on the connected screen. Smart TVs from Samsung, LG, and Vizio can now automatically switch into gaming modes such as low latency settings.

Accessories like the ROG Bulwark Dock and 100W Charger Dock now support HDR10, while selected setups also gain VRR support for smoother gameplay. A new Display Widget inside Game Bar brings key controls like resolution and refresh rate into one place. Players can adjust visuals using a controller without leaving the game or digging through system menus.
That’s not all; controller handling has also been refined. Once an Xbox controller is paired, built-in controls step back automatically, making docked play cleaner across supported titles.
Auto SR preview and system upgrades expand handheld experience
As previously rumored, Xbox is also rolling out Auto Super Resolution (Auto SR) in preview for Xbox Insiders on the ROG Xbox Ally X. The feature is designed to improve image sharpness and performance, especially when docked to larger displays where higher resolution output matters more.

Gamepad Cursor is also expanding, allowing controller navigation in apps like browsers and third-party launchers that normally require a mouse.
On the audio side, Bluetooth LE Audio support reduces latency and improves battery life. Super wideband stereo voice also improves party chat clarity on supported headsets. The Xbox PC app is getting a unified library update as well. Players can now bring games from different storefronts into one place, along with custom apps and launch options.

At the same time, Xbox continues expanding its handheld compatibility program, now covering more than 1,000 PC games with optimized performance profiles. All in all, Xbox is steadily shaping the ROG Ally lineup into a more console-like experience when docked, while still keeping the flexibility of a full Windows handheld.
