Bethesda Confirms a "New Fallout Project" With Obsidian Entertainment

In addition to confirming Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas remasters are in development and revealing that The Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5 are being built on the new Creation Engine 3, Bethesda also had another major surprise for Fallout fans. The studio has officially confirmed that it’s once again teaming up with Obsidian Entertainment on a brand-new Fallout project.

The announcement came as part of Bethesda Game Studios’ roadmap outlining the future of its biggest RPG franchises. While discussing its plans for Fallout, the developer revealed that Obsidian Entertainment is once again working alongside Bethesda on a new entry in the franchise.

The studio kept the announcement brief but made the partnership official.

The wasteland continues to expand as we team up once again with our longtime friends at Obsidian Entertainment. We’re happy to confirm they’re working with us on a new Fallout project. We’ll have more to share in the future.

Bethesda didn’t reveal the game’s title, platforms, release window, or whether it’s a mainline installment or a spin-off. Instead, it simply confirmed development is underway and said more information will be shared at a later date.

Fallout’s future is looking busy

Speaking of the franchise’s roadmap, Bethesda made it clear that Fallout remains one of its biggest priorities. Alongside the newly confirmed Obsidian project, the company also revealed that Fallout 5 has entered preproduction.

The studio also announced Raven Rock, a major expansion coming to Fallout 76 next year, alongside continued support for Fallout Shelter and plans for Fallout’s 30th anniversary celebration in 2027.

For longtime fans, the return of Bethesda and Obsidian to the same Fallout project is easily one of the biggest announcements from the studio’s latest roadmap, even if details remain under wraps for now.
