Steam Frame release date could be near, Gunman Contracts dev drops major hint

The Steam Frame has been one of Valve’s most hyped hardware alongside Steam Machine since the company first announced them late last year. Now, a developer says Gunman Contracts: Stand Alone will launch alongside the headset. While, there’s no mention of an exact date, the timing is notable because Valve previously promised Steam Frame would ship this summer.

Steam Frame launch talk is getting louder

According to VideoCardz, Gunman Contracts developer ANB_Seth said the game is being released alongside Steam Frame. The developer also said a concrete date can’t be shared before Valve makes its plans public. Since Gunman Contracts: Stand Alone is a VR shooter built around SteamVR, making Steam Frame a natural platform for its launch.

Apparently, Valve has also been working compatibility systems for the headset. Its Steam Frame Verified program focuses on standalone VR and non-VR experiences, with specific performance and usability requirements.

The Steam Frame VR headset was initially planned for early 2026, which undoubtedly made Steam players go frenzy about it. The company even detailed the headset’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, 2160×2160 displays, eye tracking, and wireless PC streaming focus.

However, Valve cited memory and storage shortages while revisiting pricing and shipping plans. That uncertainty eased in June. Valve officially said Steam Frame would ship this summer, alongside Steam Machine. Although Steam Machine has been launched, Valve has been mum about the Steam Frame.
