VS Code Brings Full Chat Search and Better Agent Navigation
Visual Studio Code 1.134 is now available, adding side-by-side chats, improved agent session navigation, full chat search, and better HTML previews.
Microsoft released Visual Studio Code 1.134 under its new weekly release cadence. The update follows Visual Studio Code 1.133, which arrived last week.
VS Code 1.134 adds side-by-side chats
VS Code now supports a grid layout for chats inside the same session.
Users can arrange conversations horizontally or vertically and drag chats or subagent chats into separate groups. This makes it easier to compare responses or monitor several tasks at once.
VS Code also remembers the chat layout and the currently focused conversation after users reload or reopen a session.
Agent sessions get a prompt timeline
The Agents window now includes a prompt timeline in the transcript gutter.
Each dot represents an earlier prompt, while VS Code highlights the currently selected position. Prompts that changed files can also show how many lines users added or removed.
Users can open those file changes directly, making longer agent sessions easier to review and navigate.
Ctrl+F now searches entire chats
VS Code 1.134 expands Ctrl+F search to conversations in the Chat view, chat editors, and Agents window.
Search covers the entire conversation, including content that VS Code has not rendered on screen. Moving between results automatically scrolls to each match.
Collapsed work summaries also expand when they contain a search result. Users can further refine searches with options such as regular expressions.
HTML files can open in the integrated browser
VS Code’s integrated browser can now serve as the default editor for HTML files.
This gives users a faster way to preview HTML directly inside VS Code without opening the source first. The integrated browser keeps its existing browser features while remaining linked to the HTML file.
Existing users should receive the update through VS Code. New users can get the latest version from Microsoft’s official website.
Microsoft also recently detailed a better way to deploy Windows updates for organizations, while Task Manager is getting new tools to track NPU usage.
