Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra Specs Detailed, Up to 128GB RAM and 20-Core RTX Spark SoC
Microsoft is getting ready to reveal more about the Surface Laptop Ultra, and new details have surfaced ahead of the company’s October 7 Windows and Surface event. The upcoming laptop is reportedly set to release with up to 128GB of unified memory and a high-end NVIDIA RTX Spark configuration with a 20-core CPU and 6,144-core Blackwell GPU.
The latest information comes as Microsoft prepares to showcase the Surface Laptop Ultra alongside NVIDIA RTX Spark in San Francisco. Windows Central’s Zac Bowden reports that Microsoft will offer the laptop in two RTX Spark configurations, including an 18-core model with a 5,120-core GPU and a 20-core version with a 6,144-core GPU.
Surface Laptop Ultra could be a monster for local AI
The 20-core model is expected to offer 32GB, 48GB, 64GB or 128GB of unified memory, while the 18-core version will reportedly be available with 24GB or 32GB. The unified memory design is especially important for local AI workloads because the CPU and GPU can access the same memory pool.
NVIDIA’s official RTX Spark specifications confirm that the platform can reach 20 Grace CPU cores, 6,144 Blackwell GPU cores, 128GB of unified LPDDR5X memory and up to 1 petaflop of FP4 AI performance.
At the event, Microsoft is also expected to talk about how the laptop could run 120-billion-parameter AI models locally, without relying on the cloud. The company is reportedly targeting AI developers and creators using demanding applications such as Premiere Pro and Blender.
The new laptop will offer strong performance, all-day battery life, and wide selection of ports
The device is also expected to be under 18mm thick and weigh less than 4.5 pounds, while featuring a haptic touchpad that is more than 30% larger than the one on the 15-inch Surface Laptop. It is expected to support Dolby Atmos surround sound and offer a wide selection of ports, including one HDMI port, three USB-C ports, one USB-A port, a full-size SD card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Microsoft is reportedly also targeting all-day battery life, with the device reportedly maintaining 99.6% performance parity whether plugged into wall power or running on battery. It is expected to be available in Platinum and Nightfall colors, with first shipments expected in mid-October and pre-orders opening October 7.
Pricing remains unclear for now
As of now, the pricing of the Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra remains unclear. However, previous details shared by Roland Quandt on Bluesky hinted that the entry-level model could start well above $2,000. Not to forget, Quandt has also shared that the Surface Laptop Ultra is the “only thing launching tomorrow,” with two Spark SKUs expected to be available. According to the details shared by the tipster, pricing could range from under $3,000 to more than $7,000, depending on the configuration.
All that said, Microsoft’s October 7 Surface and Windows event should finally provide the missing details around pricing, availability and configurations.
