Xbox is Back to Growth After Hitting an “All-Time Low,” says the CEO Asha Sharma
Ever since Asha Sharma assumed the Xbox CEO role, the company has been going through a serious reset. More recently, the CEO debunked rumors of Xbox sale. Now, a new Windows Central report has detailed what Sharma told Xbox employees during an internal town hall.
Sharma wants Xbox back at the center of gaming
According to the news outlet, Sharma described Xbox as being in “free fall” before the major restructuring. She said the business had been declining across hours spent, players, and revenue. The situation now appears more stable, particularly around first-party growth. Sharma said Xbox has started returning to growth after hitting an all-time low.
“We’re making the right decisions to reinvest in the business,” Sharma reportedly told employees. She also pointed toward strong starts for several recent games. Sharma said Xbox has also seen a 30% increase in positive brand sentiment over the past year. She framed the company’s direction around four areas, core, content, creation, and connection.
That approach puts Xbox consoles back into the spotlight. Sharma reportedly argued that Xbox needs to strengthen its current Series X|S generation before chasing broader opportunities.
Xbox Helix will become a family of devices
The bigger surprise involves Xbox‘s next-generation plans. Sharma described Xbox Helix as a “family of devices” rather than one single machine. “We are moving to a family of devices for Gen-10,” she said. Sharma confirmed that a major console remains part of the plan.
However, she also acknowledged that many players want to play while travelling. She said Xbox will manufacture some products itself while partnering on others. “The operating system is starting to look really good,” Sharma added. “We’re very excited about this.”
Xbox Game Pass is also expected to become more flexible. Sharma reportedly hinted that players could eventually tailor the service around the content they actually want. Meanwhile, Xbox plans to keep expanding Battle.net and supporting other PC storefronts. Sharma also said Xbox is simplifying publishing APIs across Series X|S, Helix, and PC.
For now, it seems Xbox wants to strengthen its core while building a broader hardware family for the future and that the major restructuring efforts are apparently working.
