Microsoft is improving Audio Overview in Microsoft 365 Copilot with topic-based episodes, support for more content types, and new security protections for generated audio files.

According to Microsoft 365 Admin Center message MC1492959, the update will make longer audio summaries easier to navigate while allowing users to focus on specific topics instead of listening to an entire recording.

The improvements also expand the content sources that Copilot can use to create audio discussions.

Microsoft 365 Copilot Audio Overview adds six new content types

Microsoft is expanding Audio Overview to support six additional content types, including OneNote pages, Loop pages, plain text (.txt) files, emails, Teams meetings, and Teams chats.

Users can add these sources to their notebooks and generate audio summaries that combine information from different types of content.

The new topic-based episodes will also make longer summaries easier to navigate, helping users find relevant information without listening to the entire audio discussion.

OneDrive audio summaries get automatic sensitivity labels

Microsoft is also improving security by adding support for Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels when users save Audio Overview files to OneDrive.

Generated audio files will automatically inherit the most restrictive sensitivity label from their source content. Microsoft will apply these labels as soon as users save the files to OneDrive.

This change will help organizations protect confidential information and maintain access controls when employees generate audio summaries from sensitive documents, emails, or meetings.

However, Audio Overviews stored directly inside notebooks will not support sensitivity labels yet.

Rollout begins in late October 2026

Microsoft plans to begin rolling out these improvements in late October 2026, with completion expected by late November 2026.

The changes will reach eligible Microsoft 365 Copilot users automatically, and administrators will not need to take any action.

In other Microsoft 365 news, Microsoft’s decision to reduce OneDrive storage for Family and Premium subscribers from 6TB to 2TB has sparked massive backlash, with furious users canceling automatic renewals.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has delayed its OneDrive long path fix until late October.
