Microsoft officially ends support for Windows 11 24H2 Home & Pro editions today
Microsoft has ended support for the Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro editions today. Starting today, such devices will no longer receive monthly security updates, bug fixes, or technical support under this release.
Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro users need to upgrade
Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 11, version 24H2, reaches its end of updates on October 13, 2026, for Home and Pro editions. This means affected devices will no longer receive fixes for known issues, time zone updates, or monthly security and preview updates.
Without ongoing monthly security patches, these devices will miss protections against newly discovered vulnerabilities and other emerging threats. Microsoft also says technical support for these editions will end.
That said, this does not mean Windows 11 will suddenly stop working on October 13. Existing installations should continue to run, but staying on an unsupported release can leave devices exposed to security risks over time. Microsoft recommends upgrading to the latest available Windows 11 version to remain protected and receive ongoing updates.
Enterprise and Education editions have another year
There is some relief for organizations running Windows 11 24H2 Enterprise and Education editions. Microsoft says these editions remain supported until October 12, 2027, giving businesses and educational institutions additional time before their support deadline. The differences matters because Windows 11 support timelines vary by edition. Home and Pro users should not assume their devices receive the same extended support available to Enterprise and Education customers.
If your PC runs Windows 11 24H2 Home or Pro, open Settings and navigate to Windows Update. Check for available updates and install an eligible newer version of Windows 11.
