Xbox appears getting ready for a massive change in its multiplatform strategy, with Fallout being at the center of that conversation. Xbox is now reportedly surveying Insiders whether major franchises, like Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, DOOM, Diablo, and even Minecraft, should become Xbox console exclusives.

Microsoft is testing how far Xbox exclusivity could go

The survey screenshots, which was independently verified by Windows Central, shows Xbox asking players how exclusivity could influence their interest in Xbox. The survey reportedly explores several scenarios. These include timed exclusivity for individual games and making entire franchises exclusive to Xbox consoles. Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, DOOM, Diablo, and Hideo Kojima’s PHYSINT reportedly appear among the examples.

Minecraft get special attention in the survey. One hypothetical scenario asks users to imagine future Xbox-developed franchises becoming console-exclusive, with Call of Duty excluded. Existing Minecraft releases would remain playable, but sales on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles would stop. Those versions would also stop receiving new content updates.

Nothing in the survey confirms that Microsoft has approved these plans. Instead, the questions explore whether exclusivity could persuade players to invest in Xbox hardware.

Xbox could be reconsidering its multiplatform strategy

Microsoft has spent recent years bringing more first-party games to PlayStation and other platforms. That approach expands the potential audience, but it also gives some players fewer reasons to purchase an Xbox console. The survey reportedly asks respondents whether exclusivity would make them use an Xbox they already own, purchase a new console, switch to PC, or skip the games entirely. These answers could help Microsoft understand whether platform-exclusive releases would attract more hardware buyers.

No exclusivity changes are confirmed yet

For now, this remains a survey rather than an official announcement. Microsoft has not confirmed that Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, DOOM, Diablo, or Minecraft will become Xbox exclusives. However, asking players about such sweeping changes suggests Microsoft is exploring different ways to make Xbox hardware more appealing. Whether those ideas become reality remains to be seen.
