Anthropic Launches Claude Duet, an AI Agent That Works Across Your Apps While You Sleep
Anthropic wants Claude to do more than answer questions, and its latest experiment takes that idea a step further. Claude Duet is a new AI agent that works across connected apps, handles background tasks, and prepares finished work for review. It is now available through a limited research preview.
Claude Duet can handle emails, research, and bigger projects
Unlike a regular chatbot, Claude Duet works through its own cloud computer. You can send typed or voice messages, describe a task, and let it decide which connected apps to use. It can continue working after you close the app.
The agent can review emails and calendars, prepare morning briefs, draft replies, and follow up on conversations that have gone quiet. It can also handle larger assignments, returning finished files such as research briefs, financial models, slide decks, and dashboards.
Claude Duet works with existing Claude connectors, including Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Slack, QuickBooks, HubSpot, DocuSign, and Calendly. It can also browse websites without dedicated connectors.
Another interesting addition is its ability to create interactive HTML reports and reusable workflows. Users can monitor ongoing tasks through a dedicated Tasks tab and review completed work in the Make tab.
Claude Duet requires approval for important actions
Anthropic says Claude Duet is designed to request approval before sending messages, making purchases, signing documents, or deleting anything. Approved purchases through Link and Shop Pay use one-time cards.
However, the agent still has important limitations. It cannot make phone calls, send text messages to other people, trade securities, or transfer money between accounts. Microsoft 365 integration is also unavailable during the research preview. Do note that Claude Duet can make mistakes when interpreting emails or deciding what deserves attention. Users should review drafts and approval requests before allowing consequential actions.
Availability, pricing, and supported plans
Claude Duet is available through a waitlist to US users on Claude Pro and Max plans. Team and Enterprise plans are not supported yet, and joining the waitlist does not guarantee immediate access. The research preview costs nothing extra, but background work counts toward existing five-hour session and weekly usage limits. Users cannot manually choose the model, as Claude Duet runs on Claude Opus 5.5.
For now, Claude Duet offers a glimpse of AI agents that can handle real tasks across apps. Its usefulness will depend on reliability, permissions, and how much work users are comfortable delegating.
In other Anthropic news, the company recently restricted AI models’ internet access after they targeted government websites. Meanwhile, Anthropic has also launched an open-source security scanner that allows Claude to identify vulnerabilities before hackers can exploit them.
