Microsoft has just released a preview update, KB5127653, for Windows 11 version 26H1, bumping the system build to 28000.3365. The update includes a bunch of new features, improvements, and fixes across several key areas of the operating system. Not to forget, the latest preview update lands alongside another preview update, KB5127936, for Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 26H2. Here’s all the changes included in the latest preview update for Windows 11 26H1.

Windows 11 gets new File Explorer features and Emoji 17.0

File Explorer now handles downloaded files differently. HTML previews require users to select Preview anyway, while non-HTML files, including PDFs, preview automatically. Home sections retain their expanded or collapsed states, cloud-file thumbnails improve, and the Details pane gets a cleaner layout. Microsoft also fixes an address bar issue.

The update adds Emoji 17.0, refreshes existing emoji designs, and introduces the Tips widget. Users can add Tips to the Widgets board or lock screen. Desktop personalization also improves, including DIB wallpaper support, slideshow reliability, portrait-monitor previews, and slideshow wallpapers across multiple desktops.

New touchpad gestures and Copilot key controls arrive

Precision touchpads gain single-finger scrolling from either side and automatic scrolling near the touchpad’s edges. Users can also remap the Copilot key to Right Ctrl or Context Menu.

Accessibility improvements include automatically maximizing newly opened apps and a refreshed Magnifier toolbar. Bluetooth quick settings also receive better keyboard, gamepad, and Narrator navigation.

Microsoft improves security, recovery, and device settings

Windows Security-related changes include a new Administrator protection toggle for supported devices. WinRE can reuse eligible saved Wi-Fi profiles during recovery, while a new remote-management plug-in expands management options. Backup restoration now provides a summary of restored settings and Microsoft Store apps.

Settings receives improvements for printers, camera access, installed-app version numbers, and time formats. Bluetooth stability, audio compatibility, microphone support, and shared audio also improve. The update fixes a Bluetooth streaming crash and power-status detection issues.

Faster Edge launches and important fixes

Microsoft Edge gains Accelerated App Launch on Windows 11 versions 25H2, 26H2, and 26H1, requiring Edge version 150 or later. Enterprise and Education administrators also gain policy-based app removal support for multi-session environments.

The update fixes Remote Desktop errors involving Administrator protection, Intune certificate policies, BitLocker PIN retry handling, and Always On VPN connection failures. It also addresses HDMI and DisplayPort audio failures on certain AMD graphics cards, WSL2 nested virtualization issues on AMD processors, and application-control startup problems.

More changes arrive for administrators and global users

Windows PowerShell and its ISE now include version 5.1 in their names, although existing shortcuts might retain older names. The update also improves certificate enrollment and adds support for Garay and Beria Erfe scripts through Ebrima, alongside refined Adlam glyphs.

British Columbia and Alberta receive permanent daylight-saving time support starting November 2026. Manitoba Standard Time is also added. Finally, prompt-based DPAPI protection operations now display a warning ahead of their planned April 2027 retirement. Not to forget, Microsoft is rolling out these changes gradually, so some features might not appear on every PC immediately.
