Excel Copy-and-Paste Breaks Again, Forcing Microsoft to Reissue KB5002934
Microsoft has released another fix for an Excel copy-and-paste bug that returned after users installed the October 2026 update KB5002934.
The issue first appeared following September’s KB5002914 security update. Microsoft later addressed the problem with KB5002665, but the October update reintroduced the same bug.
Users reported that copying and pasting stopped working in Excel after installing KB5002934. Some confirmed that uninstalling the update restored the functionality.
Microsoft re-releases KB5002934 to fix Excel copy-and-paste issues
The October update KB5002934 caused copy-and-paste problems in Excel 2017 build 16.0.5574.1005.
After users reported the issue, Microsoft acknowledged the regression and released a corrected version of the same update.
The issue affected build 16.0.5574.1005, while the updated build 16.0.5574.1006 fixes the copy-and-paste problem, according to Microsoft.
Rather than releasing a separate KB update through Windows Update, the company reissued KB5002934 with the corrected build.
This marks the second time Microsoft has addressed the Excel copy-and-paste problem in recent months, following the initial fix in September.
How to download the fixed Excel update
Users experiencing copy-and-paste problems after installing KB5002934 can manually download the corrected package from Microsoft’s Download Center.
The updated package includes build 16.0.5574.1006, which fixes the regression introduced by the earlier October release.
Microsoft also provides additional details about the update in its official KB5002934 support article.
