The official ICQ for Windows 8 is present in the Windows Store and it brings free messaging, as well as free video and audio calls. Read our review to find more about it.
Those of you who were wondering whether ICQ was dead or not for Windows 8 users now have the answer – it is not. As a matter of fact, the Windows 8 ICQ app has been in the Windows Store for quite a while, but we’ve decided to see how it looks like only now. And we are pleasantly surprised.
Of course, maybe there aren’t so many ICQ users as before, many of them fleeing to other services, Facebook being the biggest of them all or by using an all-in-one instant messenger like IM+. You get cool, proprietary ICQ smilies with the official Windows 8 app, people search function; all in an elegant and and simple touch interface.
You can sign in using your Facebook, VKontakte or Odnoklassniki account. Besides sending pictures, video and files, you also have the option of sending free SMS. I logged into ICQ using my Facebook account and noted some slow loading, perhaps it happens only the first time when ICQ synchronizes with your Facebook account.
You have the option of letting the Windows 8 ICQ app run in the background to receive notification and show your status. By right clicking in the app you will be able to add a new contact, a new group or if you want, you can sign out. I found the app to be very fast and what I liked about it is that it is advertising free. Follow the link from below to install ICQ on Windows 8 or Windows RT and start enjoying the free messaging right away!
