Apple’s Spotlight is a great feature on iOS and macOS that allows you to search for things on your computer and on the web. Windows 10’s Search, the one built into Cortana, is also pretty good when it comes to searching. Unfortunately, it has its flaws and sometimes its search results are not the most accurate.

Cerebro, a great search app for Windows 10

Cerebro is an interesting app for Windows 10 and older versions of Windows that brings a similar experience to Windows as Apple’s Spotlight. Once downloaded and installed, all you need to do is press Ctrl + Spacebar for it to open. From there, you can search for absolutely anything you want. For instance, if you want to open Spotify, all you have to do is search for the app and hit Enter to open it.

Cerebro plugins

On the other hand, searching for apps on Cerebro is not the best as it can’t currently find Windows Store apps. This is a bit annoying, especially if you depend on the latest Windows Store apps.

The thing that makes Cerebro great is how it allows you to install plugins in order to expand its functionality. For now, there are almost 60 plugins for Cerebro and most of them are very cool. For instance, there’s a plugin that allows you search for questions on Stackoverflow, with answers displayed directly on the Cerebro window, while GIF fans can enjoy a plugin that allows them to search for GIFs on Giphy directly from the app.

There are lots of other plugins including one that lets you see the weather for a certain city, one for IMDB, for Reddit, Twitter, and so on.

Cerebro is not flawless as its plugins don’t always work as smoothly as possibly. The app is currently in its early development stage and you can download it from its official website.

If you’d like to help, you can do so via GitHub as Cerebro is an open source project.
