Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is, without a doubt, one of the most powerful graphics editors on the market. You can download it for free, right from the Adobe’s website, but it’s only a trial version that will last for 7 days.

After the free week expires, you will need to pay for a license.

Adobe Photoshop’s system requirements

It goes without saying that this program, like any other one out there, has a list of system requirements. More so, it’s generally accepted that graphic editors require a lot of computing power. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves just yet. Instead, let’s take a look together at Adobe Photoshop‘s system requirements.

  • Operating system:
    • Windows 10 October update (64-bit) version 1909 or later
    • Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
  • CPU:
    • 64-bit Intel or AMD processor
    • 2 GHz or faster processor
  • Memory:
    • 2 GB or more RAM minimum
    • 8 GB or more RAM recommended
  • Graphics card:
    • nVidia GeForce GTX 1050 or its equivalent minimum
    • nVidia GeForce GTX 1660 or Quadro T1000 recommended
  • Space:
    • 3.1 GBS HDD space for 64-bit installation
    • Additional space might be required during installation
    • Adobe Photoshop can’t be installed on a volume that uses a case-sensitive file system
  • Monitor resolution:
    • 1280 x 800 display with 100% UI scaling value, 16-bit color and at least 512 MB dedicated VRAM
    • At least 2 GB VRAM recommended
  • OpenGL:
    • A system that supports OpenGL 2.0
  • Internet:
    • Software activation, registration, validation, and access to online services require an Internet connection.

It seems that Adobe Photoshop doesn’t fail to deliver. If you want to run this program flawlessly on your rig, make sure to aim for the recommended specs. However, considering that graphic editing usually takes a lot of resources, the sys req makes perfect sense.

Installing Adobe Photoshop CC can take awfully long

How to install Adobe Photoshop

Unfortunately, the last standalone version of Adobe Photoshop was CS6. From that point on, the program is available exclusively via subscription. That being said, your best bet to install Adobe Photoshop on your PC is by using the Creative Cloud installer.

On the bright side, the process is really streamlined and should pose no difficulty to you. You just launch the Creative Cloud client, log into it using your Adobe account, then install whatever you need by simply pressing one button.

On the not-so-bright side, the process can be really time-consuming. Regardless of your connection speed, the process might take even a few hours. We’ve tested this on a gigabit connection and it took an hour and a half for the setup to complete.

Intuitive interface, but requires a bit of know-how

Although Adobe Photoshop provides you with several manuals, videos, and online tutorials, getting used to it might take a while. Take your time, learn what every feature does, and you’ll see results in no time.

The main screen of the program didn’t change much from one version to the other. Thus, you still have the toolbox on the left hand of the screen, only it’s been redesigned and it looks nicer. The same goes for the navigation pane and tool options sections on the right hand of the screen.

You can still find the traditional menus and buttons at the top of the screen. Therefore, if you’re a returning Adobe Photoshop user, you’ll have little to no trouble figuring things out once more.

Content-aware fill feature

You probably worked with the clone or heal brushes before to remove certain elements of your picture. However, you probably never imagined that Adobe Photoshop will become aware of the content surrounding your elements. The Content-aware fill feature lets you replace or remove parts of your pictures seamlessly.

Just select the area you want to fill, and choose the “Content-Aware Fill” option from the Edit menu. You can also customize this feature by modifying the sampling area and your initial selection.

Multiple undo, workspace locking, live blend mode

You can easily rectify the wrong steps in this program by using the new Multiple Undo mode. We remember older versions of Photoshop such as CS2 or CS3 having this feature, only it was called “Step Backward,” so it’s a bit confusing to see it being advertised as brand new. The same goes for double-clicking a Type layer with the Move tool to edit text quickly.

Furthermore, now you can prevent moving workspace panels accidentally by locking them. This might happen especially if you’re using Adobe Photoshop on a tablet. You can lock your workspace by using the “Lock Workspace” option in the Workspace submenu from the Window menu.

One feature we don’t remember Adobe Photoshop ever having is the live blend mode preview. Whenever you wanted to choose a different blending mode for your layers, you just had to select it. This was a bit of a hassle, considering that it implied opening a dropdown menu multiple times. Now you just need to hover your mouse cursor over the desired blending mode and you’ll see a live preview of the result.

Symmetry mode for your drawing needs

If you’ve been struck by creativity before, you know how frustrating it feels not to have everything you need right there, right then. Adobe Photoshop includes a brush symmetry mode now that you can use to create perfectly symmetrical designs.

You can choose from several presets, such as Vertical, Horizontal, Diagonal, Dual Axis, Wavy, Spiral, Circle, Radial, Parallel lines, and we saved the best for last: Mandala. That’s right, you can let your creative juices flow and create flawless mandalas right on your screen.

What is Adobe Photoshop?

To wrap it up, Adobe Photoshop is a complex software solution that can handle all your graphic editing needs. However, note that it might take a while to master. Thus, if you’re just looking for a tool that can apply filters to your images, then Adobe Photoshop is definitely not for you. Don’t get us wrong, it can do that, but it would be a waste of its true potential.

Unfortunately, you can’t purchase the new versions of Adobe Photoshop as standalone tools. However, the Creative Cloud versions do an awesome job, but you have to stick to a subscription to use them. Additionally, deploying them on your PC could take longer than it should in some cases.
