As we reported recently, if you can avoid installing Widows 24H2, you should do that for now because the OS is riddled with many bugs. Microsoft keeps acknowledging new bugs almost every day and the latest is that you might not be able to change the time zone from Settings > Time & language > Date & time in Windows 24H2 if you don’t have administrative privileges.
Microsoft knows about this bug and issued a note in the November 2024 version 24H2 known issues and notification document about it:
After installation of Windows 11, version 24H2, users without administrative privileges might not be able to change the time zone in the Date & time view of Windows Settings. The expected time zone option is not visible to non-administrator users.
However, Microsoft points out that this bug shows up only in the Windows Settings app. In fact, the option to change Date & time doesn’t show up at all if you don’t have administrative privileges. So, the bug is within Windows Settings and doesn’t affect any permissions, user policies or other OS settings.
The Redmond giant also mentions a workaround for this bug. If you’re logged in as an administrator, you can still change the time zone from Control Panel’s Date and Time option as shown above.
You may also go straight to the Date and Time window. Just press Win + R, type timedate.cpl and press Enter.
Microsoft is looking for a permanent fix for this bug which will be implemented through an upcoming Windows update.
Have you had this problem in Windows 11 24H2? Let us know about that in the comments below.
