Battlefield 6 Fans Call Out Alleged AI Art in New Premium Bundle
EA and Battlefield Studios were praised by fans for Battlefield 6 earlier this year. The game smashed Twitch viewership records after it debuted in beta and immediately positioned itself as a rival for the COD: Black Ops 7, which is already struggling to make its mark.
Well, the developer of the game found itself in a fresh controversy after players of Battlefield 6 are now facing accusations of using generative AI in a new bundle (via The Gamer), despite earlier promises that the game would avoid AI-generated content.
The controversy revolves around the “Windchill” store bundle, which is priced at 900 Battlefield Coins and includes a player card sticker called “Winter Warning.” Per this Reddit post, players have spotted visual inconsistencies in the sticker’s artwork, including:
- A rifle that appears to have two misaligned barrels
- A distorted scope lens that isn’t properly circular
For those unaware, these inconsistencies are commonly associated with AI-generated images. While the issue involves a single bundle, backlash has grown due to wider industry scrutiny around AI use in games.
Fans are fuming, especially because Battlefield Studios Europe head Rebecka Coutaz previously stated that players wouldn’t see AI-generated content in the final game. She further stated that AI was used only in early development for exploration.
Do you actually care if generative AI is used for an optional bundle in Battlefield 6, or is the real issue about transparency and trust rather than gameplay impact? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
