Bungie’s Marathon Jumps to Top of Steam Paid Charts After Preorders Go Live

Marathon’s release date confirmation has sparked strong interest across the gaming community, with early sales momentum already visible across major storefronts.

Marathon climbs Steam’s paid sales chart

According to Windows Central, preorders for Marathon went live and quickly pushed the game up Steam’s Top Sellers list. Marathon currently sits as the second best-selling paid game on Steam.

Only ARC Raiders ranks ahead of it in paid sales. Free-to-play titles such as Counter-Strike 2, Warframe, and Marvel Rivals appear higher on the overall chart due to microtransaction revenue.

Despite competing on the same chart, Marathon’s position stands out as it relies entirely on upfront purchases rather than ongoing in-game spending, similarly to ARC Raiders.

Strong demand ahead of March launch

The strong Steam performance reflects rising anticipation ahead of Marathon’s launch scheduled for March 2026. The extraction shooter has also ranked highly on PlayStation preorder charts, with only Resident Evil Requiem placing ahead of it.

This suggests interest in Marathon is not limited to PC players, with console users showing similar enthusiasm ahead of launch.

Bungie plans to release Marathon on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5 on March 5. Sony has also announced a Marathon-themed limited edition DualSense controller for players interested in themed hardware.

There was also a strange bug on Steam that installed Destiny 2 after preordering Marathon, but it has been since fixed.
