  2. In the sidebar, select Privacy and security. Open privacy and security settings.
  3. Open Site Settings and scroll down and expand Additional content settings. In site settings expand additional content settings.
  4. Select Sound. Click on sound.
  5. Make sure Sites can play sound is selected and ensure there are no sites listed under Not allowed to play sound. Select sites can play sound.

If the sound is not enabled in site settings, then that might cause the sound to not work in Incognito mode. Also, make sure there are no sites blocked from playing sound.

2. Unmute the current tab

  1. In Incognito mode, right-click on the tab you want playing sound.
  2. Select Unmute site. Click unmute site.
  3. Refresh the page.

The issue could be due to the tab being muted. Unmuting the tab in Incognito mode should solve the problem.

3. Clean up Chrome

  3. Click Reset and clean up. Reset and clean up.

  2. Select Extensions from the sidebar. Open extension settings.
  3. Click on Details under extensions. Open details.
  4. Disable Allow in Incognito. Disable allow in Incognito mode.
  5. Check each extension and make sure they are all disabled for Incognito mode.

By default, Incognito mode does not enable extensions. However, if you have some extensions that you have allowed to be enabled in Incognito mode, try disabling them and see if that fixes the problem.

5. Try an alternative browser

If you continue having problems with the sound in Incognito mode, you should consider trying a different browser.

Chrome users will enjoy a similar users experience if they opt for a browser like Opera which is chromium-based as well.

The browser gives you the possibility to surf online without keeping track of any data. To start an incognito session on Opera, just click on the menu and select the New Private Window option.

Opera can be a good temporary replacement up until you fix your Chrome-related issues, but you may actually enjoy it and keep it for good. Many users say that it performs better than Chrome, especially when keeping multiple tabs open.

This browser has a modern interface that you can customize to your own liking by installing add-ons (extensions). It enables quick access to social media so you don’t have to toggle between tabs/apps.

Opera is built to perform well and is reported to have low error rates. It is very unlikely to encounter the same audio issue when opening a Private (Incognito) window.

Benefit from fast-paced private browsing and create your own, customized online experience.
