Chrome's AI History Search getting even better: Answers coming Soon

Google is building on the AI History Search feature for Chrome to allow users to ask questions about their browsing history and get “answers” directly from the search results page.

Google Chrome has a history Search powered by AI built-in. This feature is optional; once you enable it, it uses artificial intelligence to help you find specific pages or information within your browsing history.

Google is now adding answers to Chrome’s AI History Search results. The feature is being tested behind a flag named “History Embeddings Answers”; when enabled, the “feature may answer some queries”.

Chrome AI History Search Will soon Answer Your Questions

Back in August this year, Google announced, it will bring improved Google Lens Search for Chrome on desktop, tab compare, and History AI Search with answers that will be available first in the U.S.

So in the future, you’re going to search in Chrome for past visited sites using conversational way rather than by just typing keyword and waiting for the results.

Chrome AI History Search with Answers will show an answer at the top, followed by best matches and other relevant search results.

When you search your browsing history in Chrome, the AI will analyze the content of relevant pages to provide more accurate and relevant results.

You can also ask questions directly in the search bar, and Chrome will use its understanding of your browsing history to provide answers based on the content of the pages you’ve visited.

For example, if you remember seeing an article about a new restaurant but can’t recall the exact name, you could search for something like “that cool new Italian place I saw last week.” The AI would then analyze your browsing history and suggest relevant results.  

The feature will only analyze pages visited after it is enabled, and user data will be encrypted and stored locally on the device.The AI-powered history search feature may have a slight impact on Chrome’s performance.

While the feature is currently behind a flag, it’s expected to be rolled out more widely in the near future. Soon you’ll see updated History Search with answers setting and a new description to reflect the changes.

Apart from this, Google is integrating AI features into Chrome for generating themes and organizing tabs. Additionally, the company is planning to allow Chrome extensions to collect data to improve AI features.
