Microsoft has enhanced Copilot in Excel with the ability to gather and analyze data from Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF files. What does this mean? You can use your files and Copilot to work on specific tasks without requiring online sources.

However, Copilot can still search web content to help you with whatever task you have at hand.

In the official blog post, the Redmond-based tech giant says the new capability works for getting information from pretty much all sorts of sources: web content, internal content, organizational information, and finally, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF files.

To use the new capability, you’ll have to open Copilot in Excel and ask the AI tool about specific data. It will automatically look for the files on SharePoint or OneDrive and return answers. Microsoft advises users to ask follow-up questions until they’re happy with the results.

The capability is now available to all Beta users with a Copilot license. You’ll also need a stable internet connection and an enabled web search option. It will eventually be released to the general public in the following months.
