Cyberpunk 2077, one of the most-anticipated games of the year was released last week on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles, and today developer CD Projekt Red has apologized for the game’s poor performance on base Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles. Despite multiple delays, it’s safe to say that many consumers who purchased the game on consoles didn’t expect to see bugs and performance issues at such a level.
“First of all, we would like to start by apologizing to you for not showing the game on base last-get consoles before it premiered and, in consequence, not allowing you to make a more informed decision about your purchase. We should have paid more attention to making it play better on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One,” CD Projekt said in a statement today.

Following the release of a first post-launch update on all platforms last week, the Polish developer announced today that it will continue to patch the game. Another patch will be released “within the next 7 days”, with two “large patches” to follow in January and February. “Together these should fix the most prominent problems gamers are facing on last-get consoles,” CD Projekt Red said.
Last but not least, the developer is inviting customers who aren’t satisfied with the game to seek for a refund. “We would appreciate it if you would give us a chance, but if you are not pleased with the game on your console and don’t want to wait for updates, you can opt to refund your copy,” the company said today.
Last week, CD Projekt Red announced that 8 million gamers had pre-ordered Cyberpunk 2077 ahead of launch, and that profits had already surpassed the game’s development and marketing costs. Cyberpunk 2077 broke several records since launch including the most concurrent viewers for any single-player game on Twitch, and the game continues to enjoy great momentum despite the bad buzz.
We’ve been playing the game on PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S since launch, and we hope to publish our full review later this week. The game currently plays best on PC, but performance is also very solid on Xbox Series X|S consoles even though a fully-optimized version of the game for these consoles won’t be available until next year.
