Key notes
- Diablo 2 Resurrected, the remastered version of the beloved game, is now available for all.
- However, fans are now wondering if they can play this popular title across multiple platforms.
- The answer is yes if you were wondering about cross-progression, which is indeed available.
- But if you were referring to crossplay, then the answer unfortunately is no, you cannot do it.
Everyone has been eagerly waiting for this remastered version of Diablo 2 to come out, and now that it has, it’s easy to see why.
We can relive all of our favorite adventures but in a much more pleasant and eye-catching HD environment. However, impatient die-hard fans of the game never stopped playing it in the first place.
But now that we have this enhanced version of the game, another important question seems to be on everybody’s minds. Can we actually crossplay Diablo 2 Resurrected?
There is no cross platform multiplayer in Diablo 2 Resurrected
Obviously, the way we traditionally view crossplay, or cross-platform play, in games these days is the ability to play with people on other platforms.
As much as we hate to be the bearers of ad news, we have to inform you that there is no chance for you to get together with your online buddies in Diablo 2 Resurrected if they play on different platforms.
This highly requested feature is not a part of Diablo 2 Resurrected at this time and we’re not sure if there ever will be one.
Developers said it wasn’t possible to implement because there are different UIs and control schemes between Nintendo Switch and PC compared to PlayStation and Xbox.
So if you have a friend you want to party up with but they are on the PlayStation and you are on your PC, well there is no party to be had which is a bit of a shame.
But, if we think about it, other massive games such as Apex Legends, for example, didn’t have crossplay at launch and it actually took a couple of years to implement.
And while we can’t rule the possibility out completely, don’t make it your life goal to wait for it, because you might be disappointed.
Diablo 2 Resurrected does have cross-progression.
Since we already shared the bad news, let us sweeten the pot with some news you will actually enjoy. Although you can’t team up with buddies playing on other devices, you can cross-progress in Diablo 2 Resurrected.
This is a huge success for Blizzard, as everyone will surely love to continue their progression in the game in whatever format they have handy.
That means that if you enjoyed playing Diablo 2 Resurrected until late last night on your PC, you can still play it on the go the next day, on your Nintendo Switch, for example.
Yes, you’ve heard correctly. And all you need in order to achieve this is your BattleNet account and also the version of the game for the specific gadget you are planning to use it on.
Thus, if you bought this title for PlayStation 4 or 5, Xbox One, or Series X/S/One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, you can continue your progression across all these devices, provided you have access to the BattleNet account.
This is still amazing news, considering that this versatility will ensure that people will be able to enjoy their favorite game, no matter where or on what they play it.
We’ll still keep an eye out for any news regarding crossplay, but as we said, don’t get your hopes up just yet.
Blizzard is currently working on many games, including Diablo IV since we were on this topic, so don’t expect this to become available anytime soon if it will at all.
