Microsoft has just announced that Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Ultimate Evil Edition will be free to download and play this weekend on the Xbox One for Xbox Live Gold members. Due to the time differences and different zones involved, the free play window has been given a bit of a buffer and will begin at 12:01 am PST on Thursday, July 27th and will run until 11:59 pm PST on Monday, July 31st.

“Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Ultimate Evil Edition contains both Diablo III and the Reaper of Souls expansion set, together in one definitive volume,” the announcement reads. “Rise as one of humanity’s last defenders – Crusader, Barbarian, Witch Doctor, Demon Hunter, Monk, or Wizard – and collect legendary loot while mastering devastating new powers and abilities. Play solo or form a party of up to four other heroes through local split-screen multiplayer or with your friends online. Lay waste to hordes of evil throughout all five acts of the Diablo III storyline, or explore the open world in Adventure Mode to hunt bounties on the elder evils that lurk throughout the mortal realms.”

As with other free play days, all game progress will be saved in the cloud so should the gamer buy they full game in the future, they can pick up where they left off. All Xbox Achievements unlocked will also remain unlocked. To encourage gamers to buy the game, Diablo III: Eternal Collection, which contains the Ultimate Evil Edition, will have its price reduced by 35% for the trial period.
