Key notes

  • Discord’s verification code is a security measure that protects your account by adding an extra layer of protection to login sessions.
  • If it takes too long, you’ll be locked out of your account until you can enter the verification code.
  • Usually, it’s a network connection problem, so switch to another network and request another code.

Unless you want to lose your Discord account to hackers, you’ve enabled its built-in two-factor authentication security protocol. This protocol requires you to submit a verification code whenever you log in, but users report Discord is not sending the code.

If you’ve come across the same issue, this article will greatly help you.

What can I do if Discord is not sending me a verification code?

1. Check your blocked messages

If you’re set to receive a Discord verification code via SMS, you need to ensure you are not blocking select text messages. Some users have downloaded apps that automatically block messages from unknown senders.

If these apps flag Discord as an unwanted sender, you might wait forever for that verification code. If you use emails, check your spam or junk folder. Emails also have a filtering feature that automatically sends some messages to the spam folder.

2. Check with your carrier for downtime

Your mobile carrier may be having issues and delaying messages. With such issues, Discord may have sent out the verification code, but your carrier cannot transmit these messages because of internal issues.

If that’s the case, you need to ask for a timeline for when things will return to normalcy and request the verification code then.

3. Run the Internet troubleshooter

  1. Hit the Start menu icon and select Settings.settings windows 11
  2. Click on System, then select Troubleshoot.Open system troubleshooter
  3. Navigate to Other troubleshooters.other troubleshooters
  4. Find Internet connections and click the Run button next to it.

Troubleshooting your Internet connection will help you verify whether a problem is preventing you from receiving emails. Should any problems arise, you can switch to another connection, such as a mobile hotspot, and refresh your email.

4. Enter the backup authentication code

Discord usually issues users with backup authentication codes if they can’t send them. This seems like an opportune time to use these backup codes.

The trick is you must have saved them somewhere, and it’s time to retrieve them right now. If you can’t locate them, proceed to the next step.

5. Contact Discord support

If none of these steps work, contact support and ask them to help fix any problems you’re having with verification codes.

You will need to submit a ticket detailing the issue, and customer support will respond as soon as possible.

Here’s what you should also do:

  • Ensure you have the latest version of Discord installed on your computer or mobile device.
  • Check that you have typed the username and password correctly when signing in.
  • Try refreshing your browser.
  • Press the resend verification code button again.
  • Verify that the Discord server status is active.
  • Check the network bars on your mobile phone to ensure you’re receiving good reception.
  • Verify that your phone is not in Airplane mode.
  • Ask someone else to message you to ensure your messages app works fine.
  • Ensure your internet speeds are fast.
  • Disconnect any other devices on the network that may be using up the bandwidth.
  • Manually refresh your email.
  • Close the app and reopen it again.
  • Restart your PC.

Why won’t Discord send me a verification code?

Verification codes are essential to protect your account from hackers and scammers. When you enable the two-factor authentication feature on Discord, you’ll be asked to submit a phone number or email address where the verification code can be sent.

If the code never reaches any of these avenues, there could be a problem. Here are some reasons why Discord may not send the verification code:

  • Unverified email address – If your email address has not been verified, there may be chances that the verification email will be sent to the spam or junk folder instead of the inbox folder.
  • Wrong phone number – If you entered the wrong phone number when enabling two-factor authentication, your verification has probably been sent out to the wrong person.
  • Change of phone number – If you’ve recently changed your number without updating the same details on Discord, your verification code may never reach you.
  • Discord servers are down – Sometimes, the Discord servers undergo maintenance or are just having a glitch. In such cases, verification codes may be delayed or not sent out at all.
  • You do not have an internet connection – If your internet connection is unstable and you selected email as your mode of communication, it may be a while until you get the verification code. And when it finally arrives, it may have already expired.
  • Too many accounts logged into your phone – If you’re already logged in and have exceeded the maximum number of accounts that can be logged in simultaneously, you will not receive the verification code you’re waiting for.
  • Wrong country code – Your phone number may be correct, but you entered the wrong country code.

How long does it take for Discord to send a verification code?

Discord sends verification codes instantly. You should receive your code within a few seconds. Press the resend button if you have not received your code after 10 minutes.

While this may seem annoying, do not disable the two-factor authentication feature on Discord. It’s a common problem with most apps, so there’s no reason to be freaked out about it.

Another similar error that many encountered is Discord channel verification level is too high, but we covered it in a different guide, so don’t miss it.
