Do you know what time it is? Windows Time Service experiencing errors (Updated)

Windows Time Service, the time protocol that provides automatic network clock synchronization for Windows PCs seems to be affected by some issues today (via The Next Web). Many users on Twitter and Reddit, noticed that time.windows.com was returning the wrong time on their PCs , and it’s not clear if all Windows users are being affected. On our own PCs, the clock is functioning normally though we’re seeing the following error:

Microsoft has yet to acknowledge the issue, which could not only affect Windows machines but also Internet Information Services servers. For consumers, wrong time synchronization could lead to many problems with apps and security features. “Time synchronization is critical for the proper operation of many Windows services and line-of-business applications,” explains Microsoft on its Windows IT Center.

If your system clock is out of date on your PC, you can check your Date and Time settings and check if you can sync your clock with time.windows.com. If you get an error, you may try to sync with another time service. We’ve reached Microsoft for comment and we’ll update this story if we learn more about the issue.

Update: A Microsoft spokesperson told us that “we investigated and quickly resolved the issue our time service experienced.” We just checked the Date and time settings and our own PCs and everything seems back to normal.
