A few hours ago, on May 27, 2024, the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of Dragon Quest confirmed the release of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake.
The post read, The legend of Erdrick draws near, with a 20-second video titled The legacy begins. At the bottom, there was a list of supported platforms for the soon-to-be-released game, which included Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Windows.
The post, however, failed to mention the release date or share other details, leading to some confusion. Many were left wondering whether this was the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake that was previously announced or a teaser for the remake of the entire trilogy. Because the logo at the top-left corner simply reads Dragon Quest!
For the unversed, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake was announced three years ago, in May’21. Square Enix, at the time, had said,
In this latest visual iteration of DRAGON QUEST III, long-time fans and newcomers will be invited to experience this HD-2D version of DRAGON QUEST III that provides a unique three-dimensional feel by adding 3D effects to pixel-based backgrounds. DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake is planned for release on console.
It now seems like the developers have scrapped their console-only plans and are releasing the title across all popular platforms.
