Subscription costs across the entertainment industry are rising, and EA (Electronic Arts) is the latest to hike prices for its subscription-based gaming service, EA Play.
As per a report from GamesIndustry.biz, EA is expected to increase subscription prices by up to 80%. This affects both the Standard and the Pro subscriptions. The latter is a premium service, offering more in-game rewards and early access to games!
Subscription Type | Old Prices | New Prices |
Standard (monthly) | $4.99 / £3.99 | $5.99 / £5.99 |
Standard (annual) | $29.99 / £19.99 | $39.99 / £35.99 |
Pro (monthly) | $14.99 / £14.99 | $16.99 / £16.99 |
Pro (annual) | $99.99 / £89.99 | $119.99 / £109.99 |
The report suggests that the increased prices will come into effect for existing subscribers from May 10, 2024. As for the new users, EA Play is already displaying the updated prices.
The price hike is aimed at accommodating the change in the value of the currency and aligning with the market value. EA has also sent out emails to existing customers, apprising them about the price hike for EA Play.
Ever since the news broke, many EA Play subscribers have expressed concerns. They believe that a price hike should be accompanied by new features or added value.
Last year, both Microsoft and Sony increased the subscription prices for Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus, respectively. For the former, you can always earn 275 reward points with the Xbox Weekly Console Bonus!
