How to fix ERROR_ACCESS_DISABLED_NO_SAFER_UI_BY_POLICY

The ERROR_ACCESS_DISABLED_NO_SAFER_UI_BY_POLICY with error code 786 (0x312) and description Access to %1 has been restricted by your Administrator by policy rule %2, appears in Windows where Group Policy settings or other administrative controls limiting access to certain apps or system functionalities.

How can I fix the ERROR_ACCESS_DISABLED_NO_SAFER_UI_BY_POLICY?

1. Check the group policy settings

  1. Press Windows + R to open the Run console.gpedit.msc - ERROR_ACCESS_DISABLED_NO_SAFER_UI_BY_POLICY
  2. Type gpedit.msc and click OK to launch the Group Policy Editor app.
  3. Navigate to this path: User Configuration > Administrative Templates > System
  4. Next, look for Don’t run specified Windows applications or Run only specified Windows applications.Don't run the specified app
  5. Once located, double-click it and open the Properties window.

  7. Click Apply and OK to save the changes.

2. Change the Local Security Policy

  1. Press Windows + R to open the Run console.secpol.msc - ERROR_ACCESS_DISABLED_NO_SAFER_UI_BY_POLICY
  2. Type secpol.msc and click OK to open the Local Security Policy window.
  3. Navigate to this path: Advanced Audit Policy Configuration>System Audit Policies-Local Group Policy ObjectLogon/Logoff
  4. Locate and double-click Logon/Logoff.
  5. Look for any security policies restricting access to apps or systems, then double-click it.
  6. You can reset the settings to make changes to the policies.
  7. Click Apply and OK to save the changes.

3. Modify the Virus & threat protection settings

  3. Select Protection history, and on the following page, you will see recently detected threats, including blocked apps. You can click the app name and select Allow to run the app.
  4. Alternatively, go back to Virus & threat protection.
  5. Under Virus & threat protection settings, select Manage settings.Manage settings

  7. Click OK on the UAC prompt.
  8. Click the Add an exclusion button, then choose File.Add an exclusion
  9. Now, navigate to the app folder in the system drive, select it, and click Open.Open

4. Edit the App & Browser Control settings

  1. Press the Windows key, type security in the search box, select Windows Security, and click Open from the list of options.

  3. Under Reputation-based protection, select Reputation-based protection settings.Reputation protection

5. Edit the Registry entries settings

  2. Type regedit and click OK to open the Registry Editor app.
  3. Click Yes on the UAC prompt.

  7. Click OK to save the changes, then restart your computer to save the changes.

6. Perform a System Restore
